National Junior Honors society students volunteering

The National Junior Honors Society recognizes outstanding middle school students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Students are considered for membership starting at the end of their sixth-grade year.

Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5, complete the application process, and exhibit strong leadership skills and character as evaluated by the Saint Alphonsus Liguori faculty and staff. Once inducted into NJHS, members continue to contribute their leadership and service to many community organizations such as Feed My Starving Children, Loving Lunches, and PADS. NJHS also works on projects to improve our school community. Members are required to volunteer a minimum of 15 hours of service per year, through NJHS-sponsored activities. An executive committee is selected by the NJHS peers and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization on an annual basis. The NJHS executive committee is composed of eighth-grade students.

The NJHS application process opens at the beginning of the third trimester. Students and guardians are notified via email of their eligibility to apply to NJHS. The application consists of a letter of intent, the gathering of signatures from service hours, extracurriculars, sports, jobs, and similar experiences, as well as an essay. The Saint Alphonsus Liguori Committee will then review all applications.

All eligible students will be sent an email about the application process. Completed applications will be due in late April with letters of acceptance or denial being sent out in early May. Please refer to the sent email and documents for more specifics.
