Dear St. Alphonsus Liguori School Parents,
It is with a heavy heart that we write to share the news that St. Alphonsus Liguori School will close at the end of this school year.
The school and parish worked diligently to avoid this outcome by establishing a focus on budget efficiency and enrollment over the past year. The first and primary goal was financial security driven by enrollment growth. Despite solid efforts, enrollment declined sharply this school year and the projection for next year is similar, making the school’s deficit unsustainable. After difficult deliberation with school and parish leadership, the Parish Finance Committee and the School Advisory Board, we recommended to Cardinal Cupich that the school close. He has accepted that recommendation.
This news has been shared with our teachers and staff and we encourage parents to share this information with their children before school on Monday. Our immediate focus is to support everyone as they adjust to this news. Counselors will be available this week to assist teachers with classroom discussions and provide individual support to students as needed. Families, faculty and staff will be supported in finding another Catholic school in order to continue their education and employment within the Archdiocese.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who have supported St. Alphonsus Liguori School as loyal school families, dedicated volunteers and/or faithful donors. We are confident that the love for our school will live on in our hearts and the hearts of our alumni for generations to come.
We hope to use the next few weeks to fully honor the history and legacy of our school community.
Respectfully,
Rev. Greg Wojcik, Pastor
