Dear Parents and Guardians:
#Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.
Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
We are sending this reminder that we are accepting donations to the Sr. Agnes Scholarship Fund. Any funds raised will help our school budget and reduce the subsidy money needed from the Parish. We use these funds to help new and existing families who otherwise would not be able to be in our school. Many corporations will match donations by employees to non-profit organizations. Checks can be made out to Saint Alphonsus Liguori School. Please indicate this is a donation on your check for tax purposes. You may also donate by credit card through https://www.givecentral.org/location/465/event/12089
Thank you so much for your support of our school in every way, every day!

Saint Alphonsus Liguori School students celebrated and honored Veterans and First Responders at the Veteran's Day School Mass on Friday, November 10, 2017. Students escorted Veterans and First Responders into the church, walking through a tunnel of American Flags. The patriotic music stirred everyone's hearts, and smiles and tears spread through the church. The PSA gave a lovely reception for all attending. Thank you to our Veterans and First Responders. We owe you a debt that can never be repaid.
Volley For The Cure is approaching and volunteers are needed! The Saint Alphonsus Liguori Athletic Department helps every year to raise money for a family in the area suffering from Breast Cancer, as well as donating to breast cancer research. We need your help! Even if you have not been involved in athletics, or if your students are younger, you can help in numerous ways.
Parents are needed during the tournament to help in many areas. The games run on Thursday, October 12 through Sunday, October 15 in our gym. Flower sales will be after Masses during this weekend and help is needed there also. Please, if you can volunteer your time, click on the Sign Up Genius below to sign up.
Donations of auction items are needed, and anyone can donate funds to the cause by sending items or money to the Athletic Department through the school office.
Carnations are being sold for $3.00. If you know someone who suffered from any kind of cancer and would like to purchase a carnation in their name, send in the name and money to the school attn: Volley For The Cure. Their names will be added to posters and the carnations will be brought up during Mass to honor those with cancer.
Pink hair extensions can be ordered and students will receive them next Thursday during lunch. Hair extensions are $10.00 and the order form was sent out in the last email blast.
And finally, all students and parents are invited to the games. Many schools will be playing, and it is a very exciting time. Students who attend the games will receive boom sticks! Wear your Charger Spirit wear or dress in pink!
Thank you all for helping. We have a caring and strong community of families, and our Charger Spirit is shown by community service in so many ways. This is one way to unite for a great cause!

Hello Family in Christ ~
Over the past few days, we have heard, seen and witnessed many heartbreaking stories and images of those affected by Hurricane Harvey, perhaps even family members. The damage caused by the storm and flooding is beyond catastrophic. Ongoing rains will continue these next days, over many areas, increasing the damage already done.
Next weekend, September 9th & 10th, a second collection will take place across the Archdiocese of Chicago. It is the Hurricane Harvey Emergency Appeal. More information is coming.
Immediately, Saint Alphonsus Liguori set up an electronic donation opportunity on e-giving. You will see this selection when you log onto your e-giving account. You can also find information to electronically donate, through Saint Alphonsus Ligouri, on the parish website: www.saintalphonsusPH.org
Your kind donation is tax deductible.
Please pray for and, if possible, financially support those affected.
Blessings to you all!
Prayers for Those Affected by Hurricane Harvey
In his USCCB statement, Cardinal DiNardo, the Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, called all Catholics and people of good will to offer their prayers, solidarity and support to victims and survivors of Hurricane Harvey:
May God, the Lord of mercy and compassion,
protect all who are still in danger,
and bring safety to those who are missing.
May He care in a special way for those who were already homeless,
or without support and resources, before the disaster.
We pray in thanksgiving for the first responders
who are risking their lives to save others at this very moment.
We include in our intentions the everyday heroes
reaching out to help their neighbors in need,
those who, like the Good Samaritan,
cannot walk by a person in need without offering their hand in aid.

Saint Alphonsus Liguori Student Jimmy Mayer proudly wears his Saint Alphonsus Liguori Charger Spirit shirt on top of the Zugspitze Mountain in Germany. Saint Alphonsus students really enjoy showing love for their school!
The Zugspitze, at 2,962 m above sea level, is the highest peak of the Wetterstein Mountains as well as the highest mountain in Germany. It lies south of the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the Austria–Germany border runs over its western summit.
St. Alphonsus Families!
PSA would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who supported our school during the
Fun Run. Thanks to you, we not only met our goal of raising $5,000, but we exceeded it. Our portion of the pledged amount is almost $7,000. Based on this amount, Boosterthon will donate 21 meals to a local food pantry to help families in need. We couldn’t have done it without you!
We hope that everyone had fun. We wanted to highlight some of the prizes that all of our
students earned during the pledge. We had freeze pops, crazy hat or sports cap day, dance party, bonus recess and munchkins (or allergy approved treat).
On Friday, June 2nd, we will have a dress down day.
Our grand prize for the school for reaching $5,000 was a movie and ice cream treat (or gluten free dairy free Trader Joe’s marshmallow treat).
On Thursday, June 1st, Preschool and Kindergarten will get their treat
On Friday, June 2nd, 1st-8th grade will get their treat
In addition to running the event, Boosterthon provided prizes to students based on the level of pledges received. As you know, PSA had additional prizes for the top three students with the most pledges. We would like to recognize
Ethan Suerth for raising $765
Jillian Franz for raising $645
Michael Franz for raising $555
What will we do with the money raised? As soon as the pledges are collected, we will place an order for the bottle filling water fountains. Once our parking lot is resurfaced, we will paint hop scotch, four square and basketball free throw lines as well as make other small improvements to our recess areas. The remaining amount will be earmarked toward the purchase of new text books in the upcoming year.
In order to truly make it a successful event, we need to collect all the pledges by Wednesday, May 31st. Check funrun.com for payment options. Checks can be made payable to
St. Alphonsus PSA.
Thank you again for generously supporting St. Alphonsus!

Big hearted Coaches
No one is too small to play!
Students at Saint Alphonsus Liguori constantly give back to the community. However, service this time meant cutting off their hair! Six students and one teacher donated 86 inches of hair to help children with cancer! Charge On!
Congratulations to the cast and crew of Disney's The Little Mermaid, Jr. The performances were a great success! You all did a fantastic job to nearly sell out crowds!
